Newhart-Lamton 115 kV Transmission Line Project

The Newhart-Lamton 115 kV transmission line was placed into service on November 11, 2014.

The Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT) approved a Certificate of Convenience and Necessity for the Newhart-Lamton project on October 26, 2012. The application was filed with the PUCT on March 6, 2012. The Newhart-Lamton 115 kilovolt (kV) transmission line will maintain electric reliability in Castro, Parmer, Swisher, Bailey, Lamb and Hale counties as customer load growth and new generation resources are added to the transmission grid. The length of the new line is approximately 15 miles and consists of the new Newhart Substation, located in Castro County, and the new 115 kV transmission line from the Newhart Substation to the existing Hart Industrial and Lamton substations, located in Castro and Lamb counties, respectively.

The 115 kV line is constructed of steel structures. The structures, which are between 80 and 140 feet tall, are spaced 500 and 800 feet apart.
