TUCO-Woodward Project

The TUCO-Woodward 345 kilovolt (kV) transmission line project was placed in-service on September 26th, 2014. The Public Utility Commission of Texas approved the Certificate of Convenience and Necessity application for the project on April 27, 2012. The project will improve electric reliability, strengthen the existing transmission grid, and provide outlet for additional renewable wind generation in the Texas Panhandle, eastern New Mexico and western Oklahoma. The project consists of approximately 200 miles of transmission line circuit. It connects the existing SPS TUCO Substation located approximately two miles north of Abernathy in Hale County, Texas to an interconnect point located between Texola and Erick in Beckham County, Oklahoma.

Construction began in July 2013. Steel H-frame single-circuit structures were used.
