Diamondback-Sulphur Springs 115 kV Transmission Line

The proposed Diamondback-Sulphur Springs 115 kilovolt (kV) transmission line will improve electric reliability as customer load growth and new generation resources are added in Terry and Gaines Counties, Texas. The proposed project consists of approximately 11.5 miles of new 115 kV transmission line and a new Diamondback Substation. The proposed 115 kV line will run between the new Diamondback Substation, located at the intersection of CR120 and CR143 in Gaines County and the existing Xcel Energy Sulphur Springs Substation located at the intersection of CR680 and CR361 in Terry County.

A Certificate of Convenience and Necessity application was filed with the Public Utilities Commission of Texas on March 7, 2013 and approved by the commission on May 21, 2013. The project was placed in-service on August 14, 2015.

The 115 kV line will be constructed of single pole steel structures. The structures will be 80 to 140 feet tall with a 70-foot right-of-way; the average span between structures will be 650 feet.
