Hitchland-Woodward 345 kV Transmission Line

Xcel Energy and Oklahoma Gas and Electric Company (OG&E) constructed a new 345 kV double circuit transmission line from Xcel Energy’s Hitchland Substation in Hansford County, Texas just north of Gruver, to an OG&E substation near Woodward, Oklahoma. The 120 mile transmission line - a Southwest Power Pool (SPP) Priority Project to increase economic efficiencies and allow wind energy to be transmitted to eastern parts of the SPP - provides another transmission interconnection point between SPS and the eastern electric transmission grid. The portion constructed by Xcel Energy stretches 30 miles from the Hitchland substation to Beaver County, Oklahoma.

The 345 kV line is constructed of single pole steel structures. The structures, which are between 80 and 140 feet tall, require a 150-foot right-of-way and are spaced 1,000 to 1,300 feet apart. Construction on the project started in April 2013. The project was placed in-service on May 1, 2014.
