Curry-Bailey 115 kV Transmission Line Project

The Curry-Bailey 115 kV transmission line project was energized on September 29, 2016. The project consists of 37 miles of new transmission line, in Curry County, New Mexico and Bailey and Parmer counties, Texas. The 115 kV line connects the existing Xcel Energy Curry Substation located approximately 1.5 miles east of Clovis, New Mexico to the existing Xcel Energy Bailey Substation located one mile south of Muleshoe, Texas. The project required expansion of the two substations and relocation of a half mile of existing 230 kV transmission line near the Bailey Substation.

The Curry-Bailey project will improve system reliability as customer load growth and new generation resources are added to the transmission grid. A Certificate of Convenience and Necessity was approved by the Public Utilities Commission of Texas on August 26, 2014.

The 115 kV line is constructed of single pole steel structures that are between 70 to 140 feet tall.
