Construction on the Eddy County-Kiowa 345-kilovolt (kV) transmission line project is expected to be complete by the end of October 2020. The project includes approximately 34 miles of new 345 kV transmission line between the existing Eddy County Substation located about 10 miles southeast of Artesia, New Mexico and the Kiowa Substation about 15 miles northeast of Carlsbad.
The project will increase electric reliability and create capacity for anticipated load growth in the area.
Xcel Energy accepted a Notice to Construct the project from the Southwest Power Pool in December 2018. The New Mexico Public Regulation Commissiont granted a Certificate of Convenience and Necessity (CCN) for the project.
The in-service date for the project is November 15, 2020.
