Newhart-Kress 115 kV Transmission Line Project

The Newhart-Kress 115 kilovolt (kV) transmission line will maintain electric reliability in Castro, Parmer, Swisher, Bailey, Lamb and Hale counties as customer load growth and new generation resources are added to the transmission grid. The project consists of 18 miles of new 115 kV transmission line connecting the Newhart Substation, located about five miles northeast of Hart, Texas, at the northeast intersection of County roads 620 and 527, to the existing Kress Substation which is located about four miles west of Interstate 27 in the southeast corner of Section 15 on the west side of County Road 10. A Certificate of Convenience and Necessity application was filed with the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT) on October 6, 2011 and approved by the PUCT in April 2012. The project was placed in-service on March 21, 2014.

The 115 kV line is constructed of steel structures. The structures, which are between 70 and 140 feet tall, are spaced 500 and 800 feet apart.
