Custer Mountain-Whitten 115 kV Transmission Line Project

The Custer Mountain-Whitten 115 kV transmission line project consists of approximately four miles of new transmission line between the new Custer Mountain Substation about ten miles northwest of Jal, New Mexico and the Whitten Substation about eight miles northwest of Jal.

The project will improve reliability and meet growing electricity demand in Eddy and Lea Counties. It will also create additional capacity in the existing 115 kV system.

The Southwest Power Pool approved a Notice to Construct for the project in December, 2015.
